Tara Martin, Deputy Ombudsman, Information and Privacy Commissioner, and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner
As the Deputy, Tara is the chief executive of all three mandates. She is in charge of operational management and directing and managing staff in service delivery, including complaint analysis, investigations, decisions and recommendations, and reporting in accordance with the Acts. This includes joint oversight of investigations under the Acts, conducting or assigning adjudications, providing oversight of the intake and Informal Case Resolution (ICR) team.
Previously, Tara was the Director of intake and the Informal Case Resolution team, following her time as an Investigator and Compliance Review Officer for ICR. Her primary focus was to investigate decisions made by public bodies and custodians when providing access to information, in accordance with HIPMA or ATIPPA. She also investigated complaints under HIPMA, ATIPPA, the Ombudsman Act and the Public Interest Disclosure of Wrongdoing Act (PIDWA).
Tara has extensive experience in mediation, conflict resolution, negotiation, investigations and dispute management, having served as Deputy Ombudsman and Case Manager at Rogers Communications, in addition to her years of customer service experience at Fido Solutions. Her career has also included development and delivery of training to both colleagues and external stakeholders.
In 2023, Tara obtained her Information Privacy Technologist certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Tara was designated as a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada by the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2020. Achieving this credential is the global industry standard for professionals working in the field of privacy.
Fluent in both of Canada’s official languages, Tara attended Concordia University and Dawson College in Montreal.
