The Government of Yukon Internal Audit Services recently published a report detailing an audit done by the government’s internal auditor, assessing compliance with the government’s privacy management policy.

The report revealed that there is still a significant amount of work to be done by Yukon government public bodies in order to be compliant with the privacy provisions of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy  Act (ATIPP Act) and with a government policy (GAM 2.27) that went into effect in October 2015 in order to ensure compliance with the ATIPP Act. The policy sets out a number of responsibilities for Highways and Public Works, as the department responsible for the ATIPP Act, and for Deputy Ministers.

From my perspective as Information and Privacy Commissioner, the report confirms that while some work has begun to implement the privacy provisions of the ATIPP Act, there is still much work to do before Yukon government public bodies will meet the requirements in these provisions. I will continue to work with public bodies over the next several years to help them achieve compliance.
