Our investigations are confidential, but the Ombudsman may issue a public report if the matter is formally investigated and of public interest.

Formal investigations are relatively infrequent, and most complaints are resolved using our informal complaint resolution process. While we do not issue reports on complaints resolved informally, examples of this work can be read in Your Stories and in our annual reports. The following reports resulted from formal investigations.

Health Care Insurance Survey Investigation Report
A survey titled “Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan Update” was sent to some Yukoners stating that if they didn't sign and return the card, their health care could be cancelled. The Yukon Ombudsman was contacted by several complainants who questioned the connection between completing the survey form and cancellation of their health care insurance coverage. The Ombudsman decided to investigate and considered the law authorizing surveys and the connection between the survey and cancellation of health care insurance coverage.
